Online Poker New Jersey November 26 Launch ConfirmedOn Friday, New Jersey´s Gaming Enforcement Division announced that a five day period of soft play will precede the launch of online poker on November 26.

It looks as if the State of New Jersey is on schedule for real money online poker to become a reality on November 26, after officials from the State´s Gaming Enforcement Division released an announcement to the Associated press on Friday stating that a period of “soft play” will begin on November 21 and, subject to there being no last minute hiccups, real money Internet poker can start at 9.00am EDT on Tuesday November 26.

Although regulators have not yet explained what “soft play” entails, or who will be invited to participate in it, the signs are that the State is well-forward with the approval of the license applications for the twelve Atlantic City casinos that have applied to provide Internet poker for real money in New Jersey. Supporters of Internet poker in New Jersey say that it will provide millions of much needed dollars in tax revenue and create hundreds of jobs as Atlantic City becomes the epicenter of online gambling in the US.

Take Your Partners Please

The CEO of Trump Entertainment Resorts – Robert Griffin – told the press:

Internet poker in New Jersey is going to be a significant revenue stream. It has the potential to make up 20 percent of our revenue.

However, he declined to confirm rumors when asked that the Trump Plaza Casino has formed a partnership with UK betting exchange company Betfair (the Trump Taj Mahal is going into online poker with Nevada-based Ultimate Gaming).

Other partnerships that have been confirmed are:-

  • Harrah´s Casino, Caesars Casino, Bally´s Casino and the Showboat Casino Hotel – all four owned by Caesars Entertainment – are teaming up with 888Poker to provide online gambling in New Jersey.
  • The Borgata Casino has joined forces with Bwin.Party to provide online poker, while the Tropicana Casino and Gamesys will offer Internet poker in New Jersey via their “Jackpot Joy” website.
  • The Resorts Casino intend to continue their recovery from almost closing their doors with the assistance of PokerStars, and Bally Technologies will provide an own brand poker product for the Golden Nugget.
  • The Revel Casino Hotel and the  Atlantic Club Casino – with whom PokerStars had a major falling out earlier in the year – yet to reveal their hands about who they will be going to the online poker party with on November 26.

Internet Poker Attracts Mixed Feelings

Opponents to New Jersey´s Internet gambling legislation have expressed concerns that the introduction of online poker will stop online gamblers from visiting Atlantic City with the subsequent loss of revenue and jobs. Others are worried that the availability of Internet poker will encourage underage and compulsive gambling. However Ray Lesniak – a State Senator who was one of the architects of the Internet poker legislation – has no such fears.

The Senator told reporters on Friday that New Jersey will become the Silicon Valley of Internet gaming. He believes that New Jersey will lead the way in regard to online gambling in the US and will attract high paid, high-tech jobs. Lesniak also predicted that other States who have passed Internet gambling legislation will want to enter into multistate compacts with New Jersey because of its large population.
