Maria Ho has become a popular figure both for her poker tournament success and her many appearances on television.
Now, she’ll be trying her hand at a newly growing arena for poker fans: a Twitch stream.
Ho has been signed by fledgling television network Poker Central to host a stream on their Twitch channel, one that will allow her to interact with fans ahead of the network’s TV launch.
Known as “Poker Central Live with Maria Ho,” the interactive series will see Ho play poker, talk to celebrities, and interact with fans.
“We are excited to welcome Maria Ho to Poker Central, said Poker Central CEO Clint Stinchcomb. “As one of the best female poker pros in the world, her knowledge of the game, and her great personality and charm, make Maria a welcome addition to our team.”
Series to Feature Celebrity Guests, Poker Play
According to a press release from the network, Ho’s show is expected to air multiple times per week starting in late September.
The show will air for several hours each time it comes on, and will feature Ho playing online poker while she talks to both poker and general celebrity guests.
The reasoning behind having Ho as a part of the show is clear: she has a crossover appeal that few poker pros can claim.
Ho is a very successful tournament poker player, having won more than $1.7 million in her career according to The Hendon Mob.
But Ho is also known as a television personality, and not just in poker-related media.
While she has worked as a co-host for the Heartland Poker Tour’s broadcasts, and will perform in the same role for Poker Night in America: The Tour, she has also competed on The Amazing Race and featured as a panelist on Anderson Cooper 360.
Series Will Connect Ho with Viewers, Drive Interest in Poker Central
That should make Ho a natural fit in the increasingly crowded field of Twitch poker streamers. It’s a new arena she seems excited to be entering into.
“I’m so thrilled to be a part of Poker Central’s vision to drive and broadcast innovative programming through various platforms,” she said in a statement. “I can’t wait to interact via Twitch with poker fans from all over the world and bring a glimpse of the poker world and its culture into their homes.”
Ho will also be utilized as a way to get poker players to tune into Poker Central’s television offerings. According to Stinchcomb, the Twitch series will give viewers a preview of what they might see on the Poker Central network.
“Poker Central Live with Maria Ho will showcase new Poker Central talent and new programs, in a fun and interactive way, and allow poker fans to be a part of the action,” Stinchcomb said.
Poker Central is set to launch on television on October 1. The network will show a variety of poker-related content, from poker tournament and cash game coverage to unique original series such as Inside Poker (a news show hosted by tournament director Matt Savage) and Pokerography, a biography series on famous poker players.
However, it is unclear how many people in the United States or elsewhere will be able to see this content on their televisions at launch.
Poker Central has not released details on what cable and satellite providers will be carrying their channel, though they have promised more information as the launch date approaches.
