A total of 75 Floridians were killed. And now it’s time to begin the rebuilding process, and PokerStars and the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida are joining the relief efforts.

On October 3, the popular South Florida poker room and the online poker site are teaming together to host a charity poker tournament to benefit those affected by the storm. The tournament costs $300 to enter and players can rebuy as many times as they would like.

Main Prizes Awarded to Charity Tournament Winners

  • A share of $50,000 in cash
  • $15,000 in tournament entries at future Seminole Hard Rock events
  • $20,000 2018 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure package
  • Autographed memorabilia

The event is a great way for poker players to help raise money for those in need. Hurricane Irma caused severe devastation to South Florida.

Online and Live Casino Partner

PokerStars, the largest poker site in the world, is working with the Seminole Hard Rock Casino to raise money. The online poker giant has promised to match all money raised from the event up to $100,000.

The tournament is rake-free and all proceeds go to the hurricane relief fund. The casino won’t take a penny from the tournament buy-ins.

Local fan favorite Jason Mercier, a PokerStars ambassador, plans to be in attendance for this event. His wife, Natasha, is set to give birth on October 5. So, if she goes into labor early, he will have to skip it but will be there in spirit.

Poker and Charity

PokerStars has long provided a platform for poker players to make the big bucks playing the game they love. But the online poker site has also used its position in the world for causes such as this.

In 2015, PokerStars customers donated $250,000 to help relief efforts in Nepal following a deadly earthquake. The online poker site matched that donation, raising the total donation to $500,000.

In a recent blog post, PokerStars asked its customers to again help, this time for the victims of Hurricane Irma.

“We’re calling on our players to once against join Helping Hands and become part of the relief process,” the post read.

Let’s all hope the charity event in Hollywood, Florida becomes a rousing success.
